On Saturday, our DeVos-Blum Family YMCA partnered with the Caridad Center and held a free New Worlds Reading event at their Boynton Beach facility.
More than 160 people participated in fun family reading activities which were presented in English and Spanish and led by trained YMCA staff. All in attendance received a free book and literacy goodie bag.
Thanks to funding from the University of Florida, New Worlds Reading is a free at-home literacy program designed to help kids who are not reaching grade-level reading expectations. Participants receive free books and activities delivered to their homes every month.
The event also included bounce houses, free backpacks and school supplies provided by the Caridad Center, and dental and vision services. In addition, families enjoyed a free BBQ dinner from local food truck, Mistah Lee's Smokin' Good BBQ.
"Our Y truly values our nearly 20-year partnership with the Caridad Center. This collaboration has enabled us to provide essential services to hundreds of families over the years," states Barry Davis, Executive Director of the DeVos-Blum Family YMCA.
The Caridad Center's mission is to upgrade the health, education and living standards of underserved children and families in South Florida.
