Parkinson's Programming at the Y

The YMCA of South Palm Beach County offers an array of Parkinson’s health and wellness programs to the community, some of which have been operating for over 15 years, including Surf ‘n Turf, Parkinson’s Dance and Parkinson’s Cycle. These classes help improve strength and flexibility, while also offering cognitive and social activities for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease.
Funded by Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation, Surf ‘n Turf is a combination of land-based and aquatics exercises that help build the confidence of its participants by focusing on developing their strength, balance and flexibility.
Long-time Surf ‘n Turf and Parkinson’s Cycle participant, Jim, explains why these programs are so important. “The cycle class gives me an opportunity to not only move my body, but to socialize. After so many years of isolation, this has been the biggest benefit to my overall health and well-being.”
Throughout the year, our YMCA also provides special events for individuals living with Parkinson’s such as Drumming Circle for Parkinson’s Awareness, lectures from the American Parkinson’s Disease Association and social gatherings during the holidays.
