For Juan Padron, the DeVos-Blum Family YMCA in Boynton Beach has been more than just a gym – it’s been his home since the Y opened in 2001. As one of the Y’s longest supporting members, Juan first became a member to help stay active, but over time the Y became more of a community and part of his family tradition. He brought his wife, his kids, and eventually his grandkids to the Y. “The Y isn’t just a place where we work out,” states Juan. “It’s where my family and I have made memories. It’s truly my home.”

Juan mentioned that he raised his kids at the Y, proudly getting them involved in youth programs and sports. He appreciated the lessons they gained along the way, including discipline, how to work as a team, and how to treat others with respect. Juan even coached his sons’ basketball teams, teaching them lessons beyond the court. Now his grandkids are also part of the Y, with his grandson following in his footsteps and becoming a soccer referee.

But Juan’s loyalty to the Y goes beyond fitness. While he’s at the Y five days a week working on his health, he also helps keep the facility in good shape. Whether it’s wiping down equipment or fixing a broken machine, Juan makes sure the Y stays welcoming for everyone. Juan also mentors and inspires other Y Members, including one young man he took under his wing who later went to serve in the military. “We still keep in touch today,” says Juan.

For Juan, the Y is more than just a place to exercise – it’s a place where family, friendships, and community come together. “It’s something I am proud to be a part of."
